Ductwork That Actually Works
Even the most efficient furnace or air conditioner cannot keep your home comfortable if the ducts are undersized, poorly routed, or full of leaks. Rooms that are always too hot or too cold, high energy bills despite a newer HVAC system, and excessive dust throughout the house are all signs that the ductwork is the problem, not the equipment. In older homes across Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas, outdated or deteriorating ductwork is one of the most common causes of poor HVAC performance.
Girdner Heat and Air designs and installs residential and commercial duct systems sized and sealed to deliver conditioned air where it needs to go without waste. According to ENERGY STAR, the average home loses 20-30% of the air moving through the duct system due to leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts. A properly designed and installed duct system eliminates that loss, improves comfort in every room, and lowers your energy bills from the day it goes in.
Ductwork Services We Provide
Whether you need a complete new duct system, a replacement of aging ductwork, or a retrofit for an older home, we handle the full scope. We design and install:
- New duct systems for new construction and home additions
- Full ductwork replacement for homes with deteriorated or damaged ducts
- Duct retrofits for older homes that never had central HVAC
- Commercial ductwork for offices, shops, and multi-unit buildings
- Return air duct additions for homes with insufficient airflow balance
Every duct system we install starts with a Manual D duct design calculation, which determines the correct duct sizes, run lengths, and register placement based on your home’s layout and HVAC equipment capacity. Guessing at duct sizing leads to airflow imbalances, noisy operation, and rooms that never reach the right temperature. We measure, calculate, and build it right.
Professional Ductwork Installation
Ductwork installation is not a simple job. It involves cutting into walls, ceilings, and floors, running supply and return lines through tight spaces, and connecting everything to the HVAC equipment with proper transitions and seals. Our technicians handle the full installation process from layout to final testing.
We use rigid sheet metal ductwork for main trunk lines and flex duct for branch runs where appropriate. All connections are mechanically fastened and sealed with mastic or metal-backed tape to prevent air leaks. We insulate ducts in unconditioned spaces like attics and crawl spaces to prevent energy loss and condensation. Every installation includes a static pressure test to verify that airflow is balanced and the system is performing within manufacturer specifications.
For older homes that are being retrofitted with central heating and cooling for the first time, we design duct layouts that minimize visual impact while maximizing comfort. We work within existing wall cavities, closets, and chase ways wherever possible to keep the ductwork hidden and your home’s appearance intact.

Whitney M. Warrior-Deerinwater
Had a great experience, especially the consultation! The information was as they presented, no hidden extras, it was a successful home project and the boys were so great to talk to and ask questions. All were knowledgeable and all worked efficiently. They also seemed to enjoy their work and how they happily carried one with each other. They needed to take more of the snacks but they were such a great representative of Girdners to have on our home projects! Highly recommended. Owner is also great to work with. Looking forward to working with the company again!!

FAQs About Duct Installation
How do I know if I need new ductwork?
Common signs include rooms that are always too hot or too cold, visible duct damage or deterioration (sagging, disconnected sections, holes), excessive dust even after cleaning, high energy bills despite a functioning HVAC system, and noisy airflow. If your ducts are more than 15-20 years old, they may also be losing efficiency from age-related wear and degraded insulation.
Can you install ductwork in an older home that has never had it?
Yes. We specialize in retrofitting ductwork into older homes. We design duct layouts that use existing wall cavities, closets, and chase ways to minimize visual impact. For homes where conventional ductwork is not practical, a ductless mini-split system may be a better option.
How long does ductwork installation take?
A straightforward replacement of existing ductwork typically takes one to two days. A full new installation or major retrofit in an older home may take two to four days depending on the complexity of the layout and access to the spaces where ducts need to be routed. We provide a timeline estimate before starting work.
What type of ductwork do you use?
We use rigid sheet metal for main trunk lines because it is the most durable and provides the best airflow. For branch runs to individual rooms, we use insulated flex duct where appropriate. All connections are mechanically fastened and sealed with mastic to prevent air leaks. We insulate all ducts running through unconditioned spaces.
Will new ductwork lower my energy bills?
In most cases, yes. If your current ductwork is leaking, poorly insulated, or incorrectly sized, you are losing conditioned air before it reaches your living spaces. ENERGY STAR estimates that leaky ducts can waste 20-30% of the air your system produces. Replacing or properly sealing your ducts recovers that lost energy and reduces what your HVAC system has to work to keep your home comfortable.
